Cory Library Sir George Cory's Lantern Slide Collection : Since Sir George Cory’s death in 1935, Rhodes University, and the Cory Library in particular, has curated his large and varied research collection. Access to this material has been carefully controlled, with bona fide researchers allowed access to the physical materials under supervision. In particular, the George Cory slide collection, consisting of 270 lantern glass slides housed in custom-made wooden boxes, has hardly been touched for seventy years as the slides are so fragile. These slides, which Sir George commissioned to illustrate his many public lectures, are wonderful pictures of life in the early days of the Eastern Cape but they have only been seen by a handful of people. The original glass slides were photographed and digitised by a local photographer, Mr Duncan Greaves, in 2004, as part of the celebration of the centenary year of Rhodes University.
