- Description
- Operating theatres account for large proportions of health care costs, and the misuse of allocated theatre time results in wasteful expenditure of resources that leads to compromised quality of health service delivery. It is crucial for health systems and hospitals to regularly examine theatre efficiency. This is especially relevant to emergency obstetrics theatres as inefficient use translates into prolonged patient waiting times and increases maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. There is a paucity of research on obstetrics operating theatre efficiency, especially in the Eastern Cape.
