  • Description: "Gitamale is a greedy girl." The Kipango, Bango or Bangwe is a popular instrument from here southwards into Nyasaland. The instrument is partly by the construction on its back of an open box which gives the board both extra strength and a little more resonance. The string is made of tendon and is continous, being tuned from the high note to the low on order, the tension on the lower note in each case holding the higher segment in tune. In contrast to the Ligombo, the Kipango is a more simple instrument, the player thrumming two chords produced by stopping alternate strings with the fingers of the left hand.
