- Description
- This study sought to assess the level of community participation in disaster management by the communities that are most affected by floods and fires in informal settlements. The study aimed to assess the level of awareness of disaster risks at a community level and thereby provide recommendations to increase the level of participation, involvement and awareness in disaster management by the communities. This research adopted both qualitative and quantitative research approaches to form a mixed-method research approach. Data was collected using both approaches and converged to form the results and analysis of the empirical survey. From these results and analysis, recommendations are presented, which also draw insight from the literature review, to assist the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to better involve communities in disaster management.
