- Translation is one of the oldest professions in the world. It is also a unique profession because most of the time translation professionals work in isolation. They work in their private spaces without any supervision. This means that the decision on how to translate lies solely on the translator, and on his or her individual ethical and moral integrity. As a result, translators have a responsibility to produce translations that are ethically and morally acceptable. This study will consequently investigate the role of ethics and morality in translation with particular reference to English and isiXhosa. This study will discuss how ethics and morality play a role in translation. It will first state the objectives, define the relevant terminology and provide a list of abbreviations that will be used in the study. It will also explain the significance of the study, analyse and state the problem, do a literature review and indicate the methodology that it will use. In addition, it will mention how the chapters have been structured and the topics that will be covered in each chapter.
