- Description
- This was said to have been sung when the Europeans first came to the country and the people did not know what was going to happen. The friction sticks are held in the left hand, the serated parts downwards and scraped with a small stick. The song was originally sung by Matengo people, a small tribe who were overrun and absorbed by the Ngoni people, it is said. If the explanation of the singers is correct, the song must be about 60-70 years old. Who Lile may have been, no one knew. M'kwenda dance with 5 Umkwenda friction sticks.
