Description: As an organist and Catholic musician, I have an interest in exploring the role of, as well as attitudes towards, the pipe organ in the liturgy in the Catholic parishes in South Africa. Among both Christian and secular newspapers, headlines paint a picture of a decline in the use of the organ in churches and the number of organists in the world today (The Canadian Press, 2012). By conducting this study, my goal was to better understand this phenomenon in the context of my local diocese of Port Elizabeth.
