- Description
- This exquisite calabash, designed specifically for holding ribs, serves a dual purpose as a snuff container. Crafted from a beautifully beaded ground, it is adorned with an intricate arrangement of white and red pearl beads, gracefully edged with additional pearls, creating a striking visual contrast. The container is not only functional but also a work of art, carefully constructed using sinew, which highlights the skill of its maker. Dating back to approximately 1925, this piece is steeped in history and is part of the distinguished W.J. Clarke collection. The design includes Mahlubini motifs, enhanced by four flat beaded features, showcasing a blend of traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance.
