- Description
- This study sets out to recapture the rich history and diverse culture of Red Location, New Brighton. Port Elizabeth. It explains the reasons for the establishment of Red Location in 1903, and goes on to look at the Economic and Social life of the Community. Two chapters are then devoted to political struggles in Red Location and New Brighton, long regarded as one of the most militant African townships in the apartheid era. Finally, we look at the way in which Red Location has been represented in the substantial Red Location Museum project, and the extent to which the Museum reflects the historical reality.
