- Description: The SADC region is a 15-member states grouping. Countries in the region have experienced low growth coupled with high levels of poverty and inequality. Attracting FDI to the region has been top priority. However, much is still to be realised. The study employed the Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) technique for the period 1980 to 2019. Empirical results show that financial sector development and financial openness are important determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. The results also showed that institutional quality is also a very important variable in determining the inflow of FDI, even though its effect is conditional on financial sector development and financial openness. These results imply that countries with good institutional framework, as well as a developed financial sector and are financially open tend to attract more capital inflows in the form of FDI, thereby creating adequate conditions to boost private sector and investment abroad. Countries in the SADC region should therefore pursue policies which are aimed at improving the institutional framework, the level of financial sector development and further enhance the openness of their financial openness. , Thesis (MCom,) -- Faculty of Management and Commerce, 2022

- Description: Aim: Over the last few years, there has been a significant increase in mental health challenges in adolescents, specifically anxiety and depression. There has thus been concern around what could be causing this increase. The present study therefore aimed to examine the link between maternal attachment and adolescent anxiety. Methodology: The research was conducted using a qualitative systematic review as the methodological approach. The sample included ten academic journal articles. These articles were searched using Google Scholar and The University of Fort Hare’s library database search engine. Final articles were selected based on the systematic review process of ensuring that the articles matched the inclusion criteria, centred on the main research question and sub-questions. Findings and Results: At the end of the systematic review process, the final literature articles were analysed using thematic analysis, which identified, analysed, and reported emerging themes. The study revealed that secure attachment and sensitive parenting buffer and protect against the risk and onset of anxiety and adolescent internalizing behaviours. The thematic analysis findings identified emerging themes based on the data analysis, which include: ‘Sensitive parenting as a buffer’, ‘Quality attachment protects’, ‘Safe haven’, ‘Insecure attachment precedes emotion regulation difficulties’, ‘Insecure attachment is associated with anxiety’, ‘Social problems,’ and ‘Negative parental-control undermines attachment security’. Conclusion and recommendations: The extracts provided by the literature were able to successfully give sufficient information to meet all of my study’s research objectives. The findings revealed that very few articles spoke about interventions that can be applied to assist in the development of healthy maternal attachment. Therefore, it is recommended that research be conducted on attachment-based interventions and building restorative adolescent attachment bonds. , Thesis (MSoc) -- Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2022

- Description: The study sought to investigate records management programmes by small-scale farmers, focussing on small-scale farmers in Wesley Community in Eastern Cape South Africa. The objectives of the study were to: Determine the types of records kept by small-scale farmers in Wesley Community; Assess records the records management practices used by small-scale farmers in Wesley Community; Find out the benefits of managing farm records by small-scale farmers in Wesley Community; and Identify the constraints small-scale farmers in Wesley Community encounter in the management of their farm records. This study adopted both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The researcher followed a methodological path that began with a thorough literature review and a careful and thoughtful posing of research questions and objectives. A sample of Wesley Community small-scale farmers was chosen using both convenience and snowball sampling where available and willing farmers were interviewed using questionnaires and in-depth interviews. Collected data were analysed using Microsoft Excel 2010. The study found that an encouraging number of small-scale farmers keep records. The records kept by small-scale farmers, however, some of them are not organised or being kept in a systematic way. Small-scale farmers do find record keeping very beneficial and are interested in keeping more records. Illiteracy and low self-esteem proved to be constraints when it comes to small-scale farmers’ records keeping and management. It was concluded that small-scale farmers do keep records. The manner in which the records are kept is mostly systematic. There a benefits of keeping records for farmers even though small-scale farmers face a few constrains when it comes to record keeping. From the findings it is recommended that: the government offer basic education classes for small-scale farmers, records management awards to motivate small-scale farmers and records management training for small-scale farmers. , Thesis (MLIS) -- Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2018

Assessment of the willingness-to-pay for indigenous animal products in Ngxakaxa households in Mbashe local municipality in Eastern Cape province of South Africa
- Authors: Lusawana, Nangamso
- Date: 2015-06
- Subjects: Willingness to pay , Animal products
- Language: English
- Type: Master's theses , text

- Description: The demand for animal products is projected to increase progressively due to extensive urbanization, rapid growth of the human population and income dynamics. The demand for indigenous animal products will increase due to increasing income levels and this will be happening at the time when the supply of indigenous product is reducing as a result urbanization. The purpose of the current study was to assess consumption and willingness to pay for indigenous animal products looking at chicken and pork. The study intended to determine the socio- economic determinants influencing consumer willingness and consumption. Multistage sampling was used to derive a sample of 120 consumers at households. Primary data were collected using a structured interview schedule. Data collected was on household consumer characteristics, responses to different bid levels for indigenous meat and socio-economic determinants. The study used a Contingent Valuation Method to assess consumers‟ mean WTP for indigenous meat and logit model to determine socio-economic determinants influencing consumers‟ WTP. Results indicated that consumers were willing to pay an average premium of 33percent above the current prevailing price of convectional meat. They also showed that about 87percent of consumers who were willing to pay for indigenous meat and about 12.8percent who are willing to pay if the price increases. Of those who were willing a greater proportions were females. About 64percent of those who are willing and aware of indigenous meat most of them obtained information from neighbours and friends, Age, level of education, consumer awareness and monthly household income had a positive and significant effect on WTP. Most of the consumers indicated that indigenous meats are affordable, healthier when compared conventionally-produced meat. The main significant barrier to the purchase of indigenous meat was identified as its limited availability at convenient locations. The study recommends policy intervention aimed at facilitating development of marketing infrastructure, creation of awareness of important nutritional and health benefits of indigenous meat, and boosting the development of animal production systems that can add value to indigenous meat, so as to capture existing market opportunities. This would enhance food security and income generation of the small-scale resource-constrained farmers. , Thesis (MSc) -- Faculty of Science and Agriculture, 2015
