This stopped lute is found occasionally all the way from this district southwards to the Zambezi, though very rare in the north. What its distribution my be further north and west unknown at present. Both words and instrumental accompaniment are clearly heard in this recording. Topical song with Nenjenje lute, two strings.

So the elder brother ran away leaving the younger brother to bring home the cattle. The younger brother thought that their fight was over, but at midnight when he was already in bed he heard a knock at the door and found his older brother standing there. "What do you want?" "I would like to fight again" he replied. So they set to. Again the elder brother was defeated and during the fight they broke the windows and furniture. Early in the morning the elder brother returned and found the younger brother eating mealies, and the younger brother never suspected that the elder brother was eager to fight the third time. He offered the elder brother some mealies but he said he was still dissatisfied with the result of the fight. So they fought again a third time and again and again for six matches, until the younger brother decided he must leave the villgae for good. So he left his home and that was the end of the story. - Description: "You go, you go with a rogue. My son has gone to work for money. The bus is broken. They have broken the bus. The red one with a hole. The bran breaks the spoon. The rogue is Mokgadi Kwekwe. Mmapula is the clan. Mmapula, do not swear at me. I am not your comrade. They give beer according to relationship. Mokgadi is a 'tsotsi', we are surprised." This song is full of topical allusions to local village scandals, and is only to be understood by those acqainted with them. "They give beer according to relationship" implies family favouritism, and friends being left out when the beer goes round. The girl who is keeping comapny with a rogue is not mentioned by name, but is known in the village. Drinking song with netal bucket used as a drum.
