- Description: Increasing technological evolutions are constantly requiring humankind to reform how we plan for the future. Pervasive technologies such as Virtual Reality are making our working life and education to become more digital, complex and interconnected. The job landscape has already been disrupted by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR). The way we work and learn is set to be transformed as the jobs people have and required skills necessary for success are some of the areas most impacted by technological advances such as the FIR and this is particularly concerning for the South African context. New ways of education are required in order to allow future employees to flexibly react to the future world of work and meet the demands of such a digitised working environment. The expected future trajectory of the job landscape may present challenges but there are also unique opportunities. By way of the futures methodology, the intention of this research was to systematically make inquiries, create, suggest and test foreseeable and desirable future visions. Ultimately, the purpose of the research was to assess and suggest plausible futures for the future of education and future of jobs in South Africa. The Six Pillars of Futures Studies approach to research by Inayatullah was applied throughout this study. The mapping (environmental scanning) of Virtual Reality technologies as a driver of change was done, highlighting the impact of such technology on tertiary education and on the world of work. The purpose of the environmental scanning was to uncover existing and driving forces that will influence the future of tertiary education and the future of work. The Causal Layer Analysis (CLA) was the primary futures methodology applied in this research. CLA was used to investigate deeper causal issues from various viewpoints in order to formulate scenarios for the future. The study developed four different future scenarios, namely, “Virtually Going & Thriving”, “Running on Fumes”, “Sneaky Turn” and “Oh Snap! Never Left”. These scenarios can be used as departure points for bridging the gap between education qualifications and skills requirement for jobs in South Africa. Formulated from the “Virtually Going & Thriving" scenario the recommended vision, "Future Vision of Education and Work in South Africa towards 2030" incorporates a realistic, attainable and desirable future that could foreground the improvement of the skills gap in the South African context. The desired future of education and future of work in South Africa is a result of transformation of the tertiary education sector and the acceptance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, of digital learning, of the new world of work, the demand for new skills - it is a future where Virtual Reality technology is being applied in an innovative approach to equip students with the right skills, to reskill and upskill workers in the workplace and technologies have been leveraged for a sustainable future. The preferred future offered by this research, the “Future Vision of Education and Work in South Africa towards 2030" envisages an education system that broadens access to opportunities and provides the skills and competences that people need to thrive in a new sustainable economy. Education 4.0 can bring a radical shift in the way people think, act and discharge their responsibilities to one another and to the planet. The programmes instituted by "Future Vision of Education and Work in South Africa towards 2030" will build knowledge, skills and values that will be pivotal for the sustainable future of South Africa as a nation.

- Description: South Africa is considered to be the economic power house of Africa, yet still lags behind when implementing energy efficient solutions. This can be attributed to bureaucracy and red tape. South Africa is the smallest importer and user of liquefied petroleum gas in Africa. Algeria is the biggest importer and consumer on a domestic scale. The use of liquid petroleum gas as an automotive fuel is not a new concept, either on this continent or the rest of the world. Vehicles have been driving on autogas for many decades and have seen various technological changes and improvements along the way. The latest autogas technology has been tried, tested and improved to be in line with Euro 5 standards. The purpose of the paper is to highlight all the benefits to motorists and to encourage the adoption of liquid petroleum gas (Autogas) as an automotive fuel. The literature review highlights the financial and environmental benefits, as well as identifying the barriers to adoption as well as the critical success factors for adopting autogas as a transport fuel. This resulted in the identification of six independent variables, namely cost, environmental impact, government legislation, infrastructure, public demand and product availability. These variables were then used to construct a conceptual framework to test the perceived outcome, which was the dependant variable.

- Description: The research methodology used in this research was comprised of Inayatullah’s Six Pillars of Futures Studies, in which emphasis was placed on scenario planning and the creation of alternative scenarios for the tertiary education institutions in South Africa towards 2030. An environmental scan revealed the drivers of change in the education sector and in the world of work. Deepening of the future of education was done through Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) to facilitate the discerning of issues from various viewpoints in the creation and expansion of transformative stories so as to provide a window into possible futures for skills transformation. The four scenarios for the tertiary education institution of the future, namely “Stairway to Heaven”, “Highway to Hell”, “Bat out of Hell” and “Still Raining” were developed. These scenarios can be used as departure points by tertiary education providers to make strides towards the Global Sustainable Development Education 2030 targets and the attainment of South Africa’s Vision 2030 targets contained in the National Development Plan. Equally important, these scenarios make known what was previously unknown, exploring the possible and impossible, and encouraging new, innovative thinking for decision-makers. The “Stairway to Heaven” scenario supplies a future in which all stakeholders approve of and embrace the mandate of providing relevant skills and job readiness in a fast-changing world, and the benefits are maximised for all involved through co-creation. It is a scenario where industry, tertiary institutions and society have decided that the purpose of education should be lifelong learning for a viable, productive and sustainable world. The desired future of tertiary education is set against a backdrop of public and private sector collaboration, with the aim of turning the nation into an excellent hub for skills transformation. Furthermore, the scenario provides some insight on the vital measures required to embrace the innovation and the appropriate pedagogy. This research was motivated by the need to shine a light on the 21st century learner, rapidly obsoleting skills, no-collar worker, skills of the future, learning futures, and possible predictions about what new jobs may come into existence so that educationists can better prepare for the future. This research offers solutions on how institutions can prepare students for future jobs, especially considering the rapid changes in jobs and the unprecedented demise of certain jobs. The research closes a research gap through creating scenarios that offer various stakeholders in the tertiary education sector different insights and analysis into a number of interpretations of the potential paths that they can follow. The scenario application culminated in the formulation and creation of a “future vision of the tertiary education institution in South Africa towards 2030”, delivering a platform for skills transformation that will deliver adaptable workers, and sustainable and inclusive progress for all South Africans. To bring transformation into the present and design the future that embraces skills transformation, it is invaluable to interrogate the roles and choices that stakeholders of the educational sector make in determining the preferred future. The approach of this research makes it clear that, as the new world of work transpires, policymakers, students, labour, educational leaders, captains of industry and workers must proactively manage the workforce transitions. The focal issue is to discover the appropriate tools that will establish the confidence necessary to create the preferred future for skills transformation in tertiary institutions. This research has laid a platform for co-creation with various stakeholders in an effort to visualise a tertiary institution that contributes to skills development. The vision must accept that the South African jobs and skills historical profile is different from that of industrialised countries. Alternatively, the nation should respond to the double-barrelled challenge of participating in a high skills’ competitive environment on a global scale, as well as a local context that creates low-wage, blue-collar jobs to absorb the large numbers who are unemployed. The challenge is even greater for South Africa, because the economy – if highly service-oriented, with a big informal sector and a quality postgraduate education offering – is supported by a basic education system that is not producing enough critical thinkers who are equipped for university and work life. Thus, the system requires a double transformation to ensure student-centredness and meet the needs of a future worker.

- Description: SDG 4 calls for an “inclusive, quality and equitable education and lifelong opportunities for all”. The purpose of the study is to investigate how leadership has shaped the school culture, which culminates to higher academic performance in a secondary school. This case study is done in a previously disadvantaged secondary school within the Buffalo City Metro Education District, in the Eastern Cape. Despite the socio-economic challenges faced by the school, the NSC examination pass rate results for the school are constantly above the Provincial NSC pass rate results. Consequently, the aim of the study is to determine the unique characteristics of the school culture that have contributed to high academic performance, and how the school leadership has cultivated this culture. The study reviews school culture using Schein’s organizational culture model. Moreover, it reviews school principalship, leadership and how leadership shapes school culture. Lastly, the study reviews literature on instructional, transformational and distributed leadership theories, as they resonate well with South African school environment. The study utilizes a qualitative research method in its investigation, gathering data through document analysis and interviews. After the data was collected, the pattern matching method was utilized to analyse the findings. The key characteristics of school culture that contributed to the school performing well academically, are the values of disciplined hard work and academic excellence. Furthermore, findings proved that characteristics of instructional leadership such as the provision of professional development and the management of curriculum and instruction have the shape the school culture. Transformational leadership characteristics such as individualized consideration, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation, have also shaped the school culture; as have characteristics of distributed leadership such as sharing authority and accountability. The study discusses the findings and then concludes by recognizing the research limitations such as the time constraints and purposeful exclusion of certain school members, for example learners. In its conclusion the study presents it contributions to the body of knowledge and provides recommendations for practitioners and future studies.

- Description: Psychological contracts, which are made up of employees’ beliefs about the reciprocal obligations between them and their organisation, lie at the foundation of employment relationships (Rousseau, 1989; Schein, 1965). Yet many trends, such as restructuring, downsizing, increased reliance, pressure on cost and high competition, have a profound impact on employees and organisations, leading to an impact on psychological contracts. These trends increasingly make it unclear what the employee and organisation owe each other. The intention of this study is to the relationship between, psychological contract, job satisfaction, organisation citizenship behaviour, and turnover intention in the factory workers of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in the Durban area of South Africa. This research made use of quantitative research methods in order to conduct this study using a cross sectional design. A composite questionnaire was used to gather the necessary data for the study using a sample of 63 employees, which constitute 26% of work force working in the factory of a pharmaceutical company, represented by the different departments that operate in the factory setup. The quantitative findings indicate that all three of the measurement scales were reliable due to Cronbach’s alpha coefficient exceeding 0.60. Out of the three dependent variables, psychological contract is found to be highly correlated to job satisfaction. The findings of the study revealed that psychological contract has a positive medium correlation with job satisfaction, and that psychological contract has a medium negative correlation with turnover intention, while it has negligible correlation with organisation citizenship behaviour for the samples. The findings of this research study contribute to the literature available in terms of the construct of psychological contract, job satisfaction, organisation citizenship behaviour and turnover intention. Consequently, the results from this study provided the management of this company with important information on psychological contract and its relationship with work-related behaviours.

In practice the focus of recruitment is often solely concerned with the person-job fit in so far as hard-skills of the individual applicants are relevant and suitable to the position that must be filled. It is the belief of the researcher in this treatise that a more holistic approach in filling leadership roles most be adopted in order to increase the successful placement of leaders based not only on the person-job fit, but also on the person-team and person-organisation fit. Certain leadership brands are more suitable in certain environments and this must be tested for as part of the recruitment and placement process. This qualitative case study is exploratory in nature and hopes to gain a deeper understanding of predictive capability of the NBI in relation to leadership branding.

- Description: Purpose – Companies operating in the South African retail industry have been experiencing a high staff turnover, reported to be standing at 36% (Kelly, 2016). The Edcon Retail Group and Taste Holdings have already indicated their strategic focus on staff turnover reduction in order to achieve their business objectives (Crotty, 2017; Laing, 2017). This research study explained the relationship between the three leadership styles of the Full Range Leadership Theory (FRLT) model developed by Bass and Avolio and three types of commitments from the three component model of Meyer and Allen. The research study was interested in the leadership style that contributes the most to commitment. The effective leadership style may be developed to improve the level of employee commitment in the South African Retail industry. Methodology – The research study used the total population of 300 subordinate employees from four stores of a retail company in the Rustenburg region in the North-West Province of South Africa. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ 5X) instrument was adopted for leadership questionnaire data collection, the three-component model of commitment was adopted for data collection of the commitment questionnaire. Pearson Correlations quantitative data analysis was adopted to explain the relationship of the independent and dependent variables. Multiple Regression quantitative data analysis was adopted to test the strength of the leadership styles on commitment. Findings – The statistical analysis results of Pearson Correlations found weak but significant positive relationship between Transactional leadership style and both Normative and Continuance commitment. A weak but significant positive relationship was found between Transformational leadership style and Normative commitment. A weak but significant positive relationship was found between Passive/Avoidant leadership and continuance commitment. Transformational leadership style showed more strength in contribution to commitment, followed by the Transactional leadership style. Significant – This research study will expand the existing but limited leadership style and commitment body of knowledge in the South African retail industry. The South African retail companies will be able to develop the preferred leadership style by its employees and develop this leadership style in their managers to improve the commitment of their employees.

MBSA have a defined motivational strategy that in principal covers the scope of motivational theories research worldwide. However, the researcher is investigating whether the motivational tactics used by MBSA are effective or if there is room for improvement. The researcher investigates using performance-based rewards to motivate employees by increasing the variable compensation package within MBSA. The researcher collected primary data by means of a questionnaire distributed to the employees in different divisions within MBSA. From the data collected the researcher found conclusive evidence that there is room for improvement within the compensation package at MBSA. The researcher makes recommendations on how the compensation package can be improved to increase motivation and productivity.

- Description: Fundraising and income generation to service operational expenses play a significant role in ensuring the sustainability of non-profit organisations. Literature maintains that in order for non-profit organisations to remain sustainable, designing campaigns and strategies with stakeholder needs in mind is crucial. The study aims at improving donor relations by determining the role donor management systems play in the strategic objectives of non-profit organisations, and whether non-profits adopt strategic approaches to create and maintain relationships with donors. The research also attempted to understand the importance of managing relationships with donors. According to the framework of Determinants of Philanthropy formulated by Bekkers and Wiepking, the researcher utilised the eight key mechanisms as a framework to answer the research question. In the study, simple probability sampling was used to identify non-profit organisations within Nelson Mandela Bay. Data from anonymous participants were collected using a self-completion questionnaire using the determinants of philanthropy framework themes to link responses to the research question and literature. While the study returned a low response rate, the main finding of the research was that non-profit organisations spent more time servicing relationships with existing donors, instead of creating relationships with new potential donors. In the event that a major long-term donor stopped donating, this left the non-profit with a significant predicament of sourcing a new donor, which could be time consuming at best. A possible solution to this issue is to create a strategic relationship management framework which identifies each new and existing donor’s attributes, thereby linking it to the correct campaigns at the right time. The anticipated outcome of this solution is to ensure that there is a consistent supply of donors which will ensure sustainability for the non-profit organisation.

- Description: Ethical leaders consistently set ethical principles within the institution and act in accordance with them; hence, leaders should be a key source of ethical guidance for employees. As the business world is constantly evolving, leaders increasingly are required to ethically lead across different sectors. Current literature on ethical leadership and its influence of employees reflects mostly a Western, European and Asian-based private-sector perspective, pointing toward a compliance-oriented understanding of ethical and unethical leadership. This study examined how perceived ethical orientation of a leader has an impact on employees’ predisposition to behave ethically within a South African context. Qualitative data was collected as the study adopted the interpretivist paradigm, which made it easier for participants to use descriptive words and qualifying statements to express the level of influence their leaders had on their ethical orientation. The target population of the study included all staff of the institution; and participants were chosen using the purposive sampling method. Data was collected from 12 employees using semi-structure interviews. Thereafter, thematic analysis was used to identify and organise participants’ experiences into themes that established the basis for the study findings. These findings confirmed that perceived leader ethical orientation has an impact on employees’ predisposition to behave ethically. The study found that ethical leaders had a track record of being consistent, honest, trustworthy, truthful and credible, and being a role model. In addition, the study also found that unethical leaders are easily identifiable by their perpetual inability to uphold principles of integrity, reliability, rationality, and social justice and fairness. The researcher concluded that the moral identity of the leader has an influence on followers’ predisposition to behave ethically or unethically. The implications of this study are that ethical morals, by their very nature, are transferable from one person to the other and ethical leadership was one antecedent through which this transfer takes place. However, ethical leadership was not the only apparatus that influenced employees’ ethical predisposition and these afford opportunities for future research.

- Description: Modern day organisations compete in an ever growing and highly competitive global environment. International competitiveness continues to play a critical role in ensuring that both organisations and employees grow and succeed. An organisation’s and employee’s ability to innovate remains one of the key factors in ensuring that they remain competitive and relevant amongst global organisations. Globalisation, access to advanced technology and the enhanced ability to travel has further enabled consumers and to keep up to date with international trends. These phenomena’s make it increasingly and ever important to remain relevant and innovate to attract new customers or consumers and to retain the current ones. The term job embeddedness relates to the relationships employees have between the organisation they work for and the community they form part of. It is felt that a link may exist between job embeddedness and employees engagement in innovative work behaviours to ensure that employees continuously generate new and improved processes, ideas, technologies to contribute to the organisations success. It is against this setting that an empirical study was created for the purpose of concluding evidential data needed to draw conclusions and make recommendations to leadership within organisation’s relating to the impact that job embeddedness has on engagement in innovative work behaviours. Furthermore, the impact of job embeddedness is tested against employee’s engagement in innovative work behaviours. 90 professional part-time executive MBA programme individuals who were enrolled at the Nelson Mandela University Business School in South Africa and who are based at the four major centres of the Business School, which included Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg were approached to take part in this study. These individuals were employed in a variety of spheres in industry, including engineering, financial services, information technology, accounting and management in organisations that spanned a multitude of additional industries. As a result of these individuals participation, 549 participants took part in the survey. Key findings of the study includes that employee fit into the organisation, employee fit into the community and employee perceived sacrifice in the event of leaving the organisation are all significantly related to engagement in innovative work behaviours. A key recommendation of the study would be that in order to increase the organisational aspect of job embeddedness, organisational leaders would need to consider ways to or place emphasis on factors that would promote organisational fit and organisational sacrifice.

Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) and the Six Pillars of Futures were identified as the preferred methodologies to be utilised to respond to the research objectives of this study. A detailed literature study was undertaken to evaluate the existing body of knowledge on the research topic. The literature study revealed that several factors needs to be addressed before 3D printing is completely integrated into everyday joint reconstruction surgery. Having already made a big impact in the medical sector, three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology continues to push the boundaries of cost efficiency, convenience, and customization. It has transformed some aspects of medical device production. To date, 3D printing has been employed predominantly by hobbyists, product designers and a few select industrial applications, but the performance of additive manufacturing equipment is quickly evolving, the choice of materials is increasing, and prices of both materials and printers are falling rapidly, all factors through which 3D printing is swiftly progressing to attain wider consumer acceptance and a greater number of manufacturing uses.

- Description: This study investigated the scalability of tenderpreneurs in South Africa. The South African government has invested a lot of capital towards small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), through the tender system. The unemployment trend in the country continues and is a reflection of symptoms and problems that impede the effectiveness of government initiatives such as the tender system. The main aim of this study was to establish the factors influencing the scalability of tenderpreneurs in South Africa. Further objectives intended to establish the factors that would enable tenderpreneurs to scale their businesses, to define the characteristics of a tenderpreneur in South Africa, to determine the factors that influence the growth of tenderpreneurs in South Africa and to establish the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for and threats to the scalability of tenderpreneurs in South Africa. In order to achieve the said objectives, a sample of ten tenderpreneurs from the Ilembe District in KwaZulu-Natal, was selected from an estimated population of over 50 tenderpreneurs in the region, using the convenience sampling technique. The phenomenological paradigm was employed and qualitative research was done using the exploratory research design. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data for the study. The findings of this study characterised a tenderpreneur as an individual bent on providing requested services, engaging in competitive bidding, usually awaiting opportunities or bids, who do business with or without prior capital. In the political front, the advent of the end of the apartheid era, the emergence of the democratic movement and emancipation of the black majority contributed to the drive towards business ownership by the previously disadvantaged groups. Recommendations made included the fact that the relevant government authorities should assist in supporting the tenderpreneurs through a number of policy and political initiatives such as ensuring broader stakeholder participation, fostering established public funded partnerships, mainstreaming corporate social investment to uplift communities, enforce sustainable business practices and drive infrastructure development.

Purpose: Knowledge in an organisation tends to be a resource that gets less attention and only after it has been lost or neglected, does management take a look. At this stage it is normally too late to do anything that can assist the organisation. Drawing on dilemma and previous studies done, the aim of this study is to understand and evaluate the factors that influence the effectiveness of knowledge management in an organisation. Methodology: Based on a literature review, a mixed research model is initiated integrating demographics, employee morale, organisational performance, information sharing, knowledge management strategy and a communication gap as some of the factors that have an influence on effectiveness of knowledge management. The mixed model is tested in the study using questionnaires, interviews, observations and focus group discussions. The study was done using a statistical sample of 25 participants who participated in all the forms of the study, meaning they all did the questionnaires, interviews, observation and focus groups. The analysis of the feedback resulted in both qualitative and quantitative data, hence the study had to settle for a mixed method approach. Findings: The findings point towards the general drivers and barriers to knowledge management within the organisation. The significant drivers are: mentoring, networking, training, group work storytelling. The significant identified influencers to xi knowledge management are: employee morale, information sharing, communication gap and employee tenure. Originality: The study contributes to an understanding of factors that influence the effectiveness of knowledge management in an organisation. Although the effects of these concepts have received considerable attention and literature abounds, however, there have been a few studies on these concepts, if any, conducted in the Energy Sector, more specifically within a South African context. For this reason, the study intended to contribute to the literature of leadership styles and on organisational culture’s impact on job satisfaction and organisational commitment in a parastatal and in the South African context. The present study aimed to assess the effects of leadership styles and organisational culture on job satisfaction and organisational commitment among employees at Eskom, Eastern Cape Operating Unit (ECOU), South Africa. To achieve this, a theoretical model or framework depicting the relationship between these variables was developed and tested. The present study was located within the positivist research paradigm which makes use of a quantitative approach in the form of a questionnaire to gather data for analysis and theoretical comparison. The questionnaire was designed to elicit and rate the respondents’ views as well as for the quantitative data analysis. The population for the present study comprised of approximately 600 employees within the ECOUmain branch offices situated in Beacon Bay, East London. The present study made use of the non-probability sampling design by means of a convenience sampling technique to draw the sample for the study. Questionnaires were distributed to 120 employees within the Asset Creation, Maintenance and Operations Divisions of the ECOU. Of the 120 questionnaires, a total of 86 usable questionnaires were returned and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25 tool. Both descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed and findings presented. It was found that there is currently a prevalence of both the Transformational and Transactional leadership styles at the ECOU. However, when asked which leadership style employees would prefer, the majority of the respondents indicated that they would prefer a Transformational leadership style to be exhibited by their managers. Although there was no discernible difference between the two types of leadership styles, a majority of the respondents indicated that they believed that leadership had an impact on their, and the organisation’s, performance, regardless of which style of leadership was exhibited. The findings relating to Organisational Culture highlighted that the majority of respondents felt that the existing culture within the operating unit is that of a Hierarchical Culture. Furthermore, the majority of respondents indicated that they would prefer a Clan Culture instead of the existing culture. With regard to Job Satisfaction, most respondents indicated their dissatisfaction with their salaries as well as there being little chances of being promoted regardless of their work output. The findings relating to Organisational Commitment indicated that most respondents neither have an emotional attachment nor feel any obligation or loyalty to the organisation. The only reason why they are still with the organisation is because of necessity rather than a conscious commitment to the organisation. The overall impression is that the respondents are disengaged from their organisation and thus not committed to it. It was concluded that there is a strong relationship between leadership styles, job satisfaction and organisational commitment. The relationship, however, is a negative one. This confirms the hypothesis that leadership style has an impact on both job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Secondly, it was concluded that organisational culture has an impact on both job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Similarly, this relationship is currently a negative one. Recommendations were made for management to review the leadership styles exhibited by the managers, and to subsequently review the impact of the existing organisational culture on job satisfaction and organisational commitment among employees at this operating unit.

Five independent variables were identified and tested as to identify the effects/ impact they have on the MTN telecommunication strategy. The research report began with an in-depth literature review on the concept of disruptive innovation and the variables and Internet of things, Cloud Technology, Blockchain, Mobile Money Cashless Society and Big Data. The literature review also provides an overview of the status of the telecommunication industry in Africa, the pace of change and the challenges network operators are facing due to the innovations. This is followed by qualitative explanatory case study research design through in-depth interviews. The research provides valuable insights on recommendations to MTN management on the effects on disruptive innovation on their strategy. This research study provides a useful insight on the effects of disruptive innovation with a telecommunication context in Africa. It also highlights the key disruptive technologies that are at the forefront the current innovation wave. The study is limited to MTN and does not incorporate other multinational network operators who have established networks on the African continent. The research effort looks at the positive and negative effects of disruptive innovation on MTN strategy and make recommendations on how MTN can overcome, minimise or reduce the identified effects on the strategy.

The study employs a qualitative research approach by empirically conducting in-depth discussions with industry experts on the subject matter at hand, underpinned by academic literature. The study will justify the interdependencies of business and the society and explores the benefits of integrating CSR into the core strategy of business. - Description: It has become imperative for companies in the motor industry to study and understand the notion of brand loyalty due to the many inherent advantages that it offers. Although existing literature provides extensive information on brand loyalty, the concept of brand loyalty is not constant across all industries. Factors such as age and culture also alter the effects of brand loyalty and the degree of brand loyalty generated within a consumer. Taking these variables into account, this study sets out to establish if age and culture have an effect on brand loyalty in the South African motor industry. The method in which motor companies emit marketing signals are also explored to establish if the emitted marketing signals are able to assist in the generation of brand loyalty. A South African real estate agent group agreed to participate in the research and became the sample population for the study. 190 successfully completed questionnaires were obtained in the data collection process and data with a Cronbach Alpha Coefficient (α) of 0.7662 proved that the data had satisfactory reliability. The data was processed and analysed in the statistical analysis program Stata. The study discovered that marketing signals don't assist in the generation of brand loyalty in the South African motor industry. It is suggested that it is more plausible that marketing signals can assist to maintain brand loyalty, rather than to generate brand loyalty. The study also discovered that culture does not have an effect on brand loyalty in the South African motor industry. However, after considering that the cultural distribution of the sample was significantly skewed, the sample is regarded as an unreliable test of the effect of culture on brand loyalty. The study also discovered that age doesn't have an effect brand loyalty in the South African motor industry. The researcher noted that the previously cognitively strenuous process of obtaining information has become more simplified by the internet and could potentially have reduced the generating of brand loyalty among older consumers. A final test was conducted to ascertain if relationships exist between the four stages of loyalty. The study suggested that all four loyalty stages are connected which confirms that brand loyalty is generated by both attitudinal and behavioural dimensions.

- Description: HIV is a disease that has a myriad of effects across different settings, and its prevalence varies across countries with different epidemiological drivers. The growing and disproportionate impact on young women has encouraged new ideas in HIV prevention strategies. The profusion of studies on HIV prevention strategies notwithstanding, the aspect of condom innovation has been largely ignored in literature. Drawing on the Diffusion of Innovation theory, this study examines how Max condoms have gained popularity among young women aged 18-24 years. The hypotheses are tested using an innovation-decision conceptual model and a comprehensive data set of 131 participants from rural, peri-urban and urban districts in KwaZulu Natal. Results reveal that the impact of marketing material and an effective public launch were significant in increasing Max condoms uptake, while the influence of peers and other members of one’s social system are critical for normalising the behaviour change. Young women have adopted Max condoms and uptake is continually influenced by positive perception of Max condoms’ relative advantage.
