"Mamilambo" is said to be a spirit or charm in the shape of a snake, which the people buy from the diviners in order to obtain good luck and get rich-so it was explained. The married women were more soberly dressed than the young unmarried ones and wore their headclothes in the more usual Xhosa 'pile' of cloth on the head, producing a large loose turban-like effect.
