  • Description: The fine Mzeno (inserted here for comparison) was recorded in the same village just 14 years earlier, and is a useful guide to any change of style during that period. For purposes of this recording, the verses were not repeated as is usual with Mzeno. This Mzeno of Chief Mahikete (Canda) is about the payment of poll tax and the wish of the people to escape payment by running along to Mnyokowela in the Panda district, as they did in the old days when fighting against Shangaans. This is the complaint of a rejected wife whose husband is away working, or of a widow who has been thrown back on her own meagre resources.   • Description: The first Msitso was the composition of the distinguished and talented muscian, Komukomu, who died at Banguza over a year ago, but who recorded for me on several occasions and led the combined orchestra of Timbila to Bulawayo and Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia as well as on many other important occassions. His was one of the great names in Chopi music and an honoured composer over the last 20 years or more. His Timbila orchestra at Filipi Banguza's village has not yet settled down to a new leader after his death.   • Description: This is the first of a set of 5 Msitso or oechestral introductions, all of them composed by Shambini, the leader of the village orchestra or Ngodo. 0m. 51s. Solo introduction or Cadenza, Kunigeta. 0m. 56s. Msitso starts. The Ngodo of Mavila composed entirely by Shambini consists of these 13 movements:- Five Msitso introductions followed by (6) Ndano, (7) Ngeniso, (8) Chidanawana, (9) Shibudu, (10) Mzeno, (11) Msumeto, (12) Mabandla, and (13) the closing Msitso. This last Msitso being a repeat of the first Msitso has not been featured on the discs for lack of space. Tuning: 496, 456, 412, (368), 372, 336, 308, 276, 248 vs. The note 368 vs. was cracked and went flat. In spite of Shambini's attempt to correct it by thinning the ends, it proved too badly broken and was exchanged for a more taken from another Timbila (372 vs).
