The players themselves sang all the words which are normally sung by the dancers. As there were no dance routines to be completed during the performance, each item is rather shorter than it would have been in the home village. With these minor exceptions the Ngodo is the complete work; all of it the composition of its leader Katini, a leading figure in Chopi music for 40 years. He died in 1948 about 60 years old.
