- Description: In this recording the rhythm of the four small goblet drums set against the single bass drum can be clearly distinguished. 1 x - 14.52104 -; 4 x - 14.25103 -; 4 x - 14.02101 -. This set of 9 drums was very carefully tuned before playing particularly the four small goblet drums which were played by one man and were tuned approximately to 840, 672, 568, 464 vs. Between items the drums would be taken to a fire, wetted and returned by heat, but naturally the tuning can only be approximately correct. If the above tuning was correct the intervals would be approximately 386, 291, 350 cents or about a 7th in all. The drums were made from wood of the Mukongo tree. Madogoli dance song for men and women, with 5 Goblet pegged and footed drums, 4 cylindrical pegged drums and tin rattles (-12.54-).

- Description: This hunting flute melodies improvised by the player as he sits iutside the hut of a dead friend have a strange fascination. They are played, they said, during the burial feast or wake. A woman can be crying in the background as in mourning. The method of blowing this pipe is interesting. The open, square cut end to the bamboo pipe is partly closed by the tongue, the wind being expelled out of the side of the mouth across the edge of the bamboo. The tongue is used to give a vibrato effect but the purity of tone is marred by the strong edge tone. These tunes, they say, are frequently used for lamenting the dead, and the player will sit all night outside the hut of his dead friend, improvising flute tunes throughout the hours of darkness. Ilonge end blown flutes.

- Description: This instrument had four rows of red beads tied across the notes which rattled as each note below it was played. All the Bantu tribes appear to like this kind of buzzing which to them seems to enhance the rhythm at the expense of the melody. The vibrato effect is achieved through the use of a vibrato hole in the back of the instrument. Nostalgic song, with 7 note Limba (Mbira).

- Description: The clear sound of these drums suggests metal rather than membrane tone. The membranes had been tightened almost to breaking point over the fire. A tape fault can be heard near the beginning of this item.
