- Description: Who are we going to dance with? Today we dance with women because Mahlelela is very fond of women, refusing to dance with the girls. When Mahlalela dances in his big "Scotch" hat his head wobbles from side to side, and people laugh "Chekula, chekula. elewee." In the 1920's the autoharp was the most popular of foreign manufactured unstruments, several hundred thousand having been sold to Africans in South Africa alone. It then suffered a sharp decline and today in 1963 very few can be found except among the Pedi where a few are still played. Topical song with Autoharp, 2 small drums, made of tins with rubber heads and 1 rattle

- Description: The girl playing this mouth bow whistles out of the side of her mouth as well as resonating the notes in the usual manner. She used the open string and a stopped note, stopping it with her thumbnail and first finger. The use of this indigenious instrument and its style of music explains the ease with which Gcaleka people take to the small concertina. The harmonies produced in the mouth being on the true harmonic series makes the transition to the concertina a simple matter for simple tunes. Notes of the bow, 292 and 260. Mtshotsho dance for boys and girls with Ikinki mouth resonated musical bow.

- Description: A diviner arrived in person but declined to sing with the women who were all sitting around on the floor of the hut, about 80 of them. "Mamilambo" is said to be a spirit or charm in the shape of a snake, which the people buy from the diviners in order to obtain good luck and get rich-so it was explained. The married women were more soberly dressed than the young unmarried ones and wore their headclothes in the more usual Xhosa 'pile' of cloth on the head, producing a large loose turban-like effect. Diviner's song, with clapping.

- Description: The roaring or grunting in this dance song is a sound peculiar to the Xhosa. The Luo and Giriyama of Kenya also do it and some of the East Coast Swahili, notably in their religious songs. It is possibly a vestigial remain of Arab influence acquired during the tribe's sojourn in East Africa some 500 years ago. Mbayizelo dance song, with clapping.
