Chiov., a threatened medicinal plant in southern Mozambique 20 cm) size classes in all the study areas but gatherers avoided harvesting bark from recruits. Although the mean densities of harvested stem was not significant this work indicated higher levels of stem destruction in FC. Harvested dead stems ware significant in the three areas and FC had the higher of (39.5±85.9 stems/ha) compared to 7.6±19.1 and 2.1±4.3 in TR and LM, respectively. Equally, the density of physiologically stressed stems differed substantially in the three areas with higher in FC 20.5± 75.5 stems/ha compared to 18.7±82.9 stems/ha in TR and 3.8±11.8 stems/ha in LM. This results suggests implementation of protection measures such as the inclusion of the species in the national CITES list to regulated cross-border trade and strengthening of the law enforcement. Genetic diversity, structure and gene flow in the exiting populations of southern Mozambique revealed that despite fragmentation and overexploitation, this species maintains a relatively high level of genetic diversity supporting the existence of random mating. Two genetic groups were found corresponding to the northern (LM and TR) and southern (FC) areas. The study suggests that, if local extinctions occurred in Mozambique, the pepper-bark tree persisted in sufficient numbers to retain a large proportion of genetic diversity. Management plans should concentrate on maintaining this high level of genetic variability through both in and ex-situ conservation actions.]]> Thu 01 Sep 2022 11:56:53 SAST ]]> Effect of adding a probiotic to an aquaponic system on plant and fish growth, water quality, and microbial diversity Sun 09 Oct 2022 18:49:45 SAST ]]> Environmental governance, agency and multi-actor dynamics in Southern Africa Sun 09 Oct 2022 18:08:57 SAST ]]> Structural determinants of the HSP90-Fibronectin interaction and implications for fibrillogenesis Sun 09 Oct 2022 18:07:39 SAST ]]> An investigation of traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) in the SANAE HF radar data Sun 09 Oct 2022 17:48:47 SAST ]]> The narratives of women in South Africa who use social media to talk about gender-based violence Sun 09 Oct 2022 17:46:59 SAST ]]> Socio-historical analysis of organisational change: a case study of Zimbabwe posts (Zimpost), 2010–2020 Mon 30 Jan 2023 10:22:08 SAST ]]> Don’t let the little man live in your head for free: an interpretive phenomenological analysis of seafarers with reportedly high levels of well-being Mon 30 Jan 2023 08:12:14 SAST ]]> Colonial displacements and African coping strategies: The experience of BaTonga of Binga, Zimbabwe, 1956-2008 Mon 30 Jan 2023 07:54:07 SAST ]]> The transformative potential of intersecting with arts-based inquiry and environmental learning in urban South Africa: a focus on socio-ecological water pedagogies Mon 26 Sep 2022 15:54:47 SAST ]]> The memory altar Mon 25 Jul 2022 15:58:32 SAST ]]> Quantifying the impacts of cactus biological control agents in South Africa Mon 24 Oct 2022 16:23:01 SAST ]]> Singlet oxygen and optical limiting applications of BODIPYs and other molecular dyes Mon 24 Oct 2022 15:47:54 SAST ]]> Dynamics of charge movement in ∞-Al2O3:C,Mg using thermoluminescence phototransferred and optically stimulated luminescence Mon 24 Oct 2022 14:52:01 SAST ]]> Investigating the impact of psychological capital on job burnout amongst the nurses at Victoria hospital Alice, Eastern Cape province 0.05, there is no significant independent impact of hope on job burnout, that B= -1.282 t= -2.280, p<0.05, there is no significant impact of resilience on job burnout, B= 0.009, t= 0.22 p>0.05, and lastly, there is no significant independent impact of optimism on job burnout, B= 0.919 t=1.594, p>0.05. During the present study in the Sundays Estuary, low oxygen waters were recorded in the middle reaches (Site S5) mostly during summer (four months of low DO conditions). In the Swartkops Estuary, low dissolved oxygen was recorded in the upper reaches during spring. The lowest dissolved oxygen concentration recorded was 0.5 mg/l and 2.4 mg/l in the bottom waters of the Sundays and Swartkops estuaries, respectively. Selected dominant species were only absent from areas where dissolved oxygen was < 1 mg/l and present in the adjacent sites (for example Site S4, and S3) where DO was higher mostly during January 2019. As such, the low dissolved oxygen concentrations recorded in the Swartkops Estuary did not have a noticeable impact on fish distribution, although the total abundance of species did show a slight decline when dissolved oxygen was < 3 mg/l. This study demonstrates the importance of concurrently examining estuarine and nearshore marine habitats in order to identify ecologically important habitats, which has important implications for the development of effective management strategies for coastal fish populations, particularly in the light of anthropogenic change. In addition, in order to identify nursery hotspots it is crucial to correctly identify all the species occupying these areas. As such, this study confirms the importance of also using DNA barcoding for fish identification, particularly for the early life history stages of cryptic species (e.g. Argyrosomus inodorus and Argyrosomus japonicus).]]> Mon 10 Oct 2022 08:22:49 SAST ]]> An eco-physiological investigation of fisheries-induced evolution: comparing the resilience of larvae from exploited and unexploited commercial reef fish populations to projected ocean acidification Mon 10 Oct 2022 08:02:20 SAST ]]> Clinical governance implementation challenges in the Department of Health, Mpumalanga, South Africa Mon 07 Nov 2022 11:50:11 SAST ]]> Investigation of risky sexual behaviour amongst HIV/AIDS positive individuals on antiretroviral treatment in Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Eastern Cape Province, South Africa Mon 07 Nov 2022 10:47:22 SAST ]]> English additional language student teachers’ development of oral strategic competence and confidence Mon 01 Aug 2022 15:47:38 SAST ]]> Skipping stones Fri 29 Jul 2022 12:38:33 SAST ]]> Exploring learners’ engagement with literacy in a book club Fri 29 Jul 2022 11:48:00 SAST ]]> Synthesis and evaluation of the medicinal potential of novel 4-hydroxycoumarin derivatives Fri 29 Jul 2022 08:40:40 SAST ]]> Multicolored crocheted shawl/leg blanket with crocheted black boarder Fri 23 Sep 2022 08:54:50 SAST ]]> Alcohol use among women attending antenatal care in Buffalo City, Eastern Cape Fri 22 Apr 2022 10:25:43 SAST ]]> Ceramic blue vase decorated with gold and bronze details Fri 16 Sep 2022 10:39:43 SAST ]]> Visualisation processes in teaching patterns and their generalisation: perceptions and experiences from senior phase mathematics teachers Fri 15 Jul 2022 15:41:10 SAST ]]> Chinese character learning with the aid of an ICT website among Mandarin Second Additional Language learners in South Africa: a case study Fri 14 Oct 2022 15:47:43 SAST ]]> Umzi ka Mama Family property transfer practices and the historical significance of title deeds to African female heads of household in Fingo Village: a participatory theatre approach Fri 14 Oct 2022 09:25:10 SAST ]]> Towards the Common Good: An expansive post-abyssal (Re)stor(y)ing of the epistemic cultures of the citizen sciences Fri 11 Nov 2022 13:00:08 SAST ]]> Alien crosstalk Fri 11 Nov 2022 10:05:09 SAST ]]> Exploring the role of the Department of Social Development on the integrated school health programme in the Buffalo City Municipality .
